2009 Superbike World Champion Ben Spies is one of the candidates for the Performer of the Year Award on America's all-motor sport TV network and WSB's US broadcaster Speed TV.
The Yamaha Sterilgarda man, who clinched this year's title in his first year in World Superbike, will go up against three other candidates in the Rookie of the Year category.
The Texan won the title with 14 wins in 28 starts and a record-breaking 11 pole positions, but he will have to beat off the challenge from the Formula 1 Brawn Racing Team, which also won a title in its first year, Stewart-Haas Racing which finished sixth in the NASCAR Sprint Cup and Parker Kligerman, who finished runner-up in the ARCA stock car series in the USA.
Voting, which closes on December 20th, can be done through the www.speedtv.com or www.speedperformanceawards.com websites. The Awards will be presented in February.
