Michele PirroVanni Lorenzini runs one of the top Italian teams in World Supersport and Superstock and over the years his name has always been associated with Yamaha (photo, Michele Pirro in 2009). Things may change in 2010 however as Lorenzini is hoping to switch his allegiance to Kawasaki.

The team is close to closing a deal for 2010 and will shortly announce its 2010 plans. “Our participation in 2010 World Supersport is not yet confirmed” declared Lorenzini in an official press release, “but me and the team are working hard to find the right budget”.

When it was clear that Yamaha were not in a position to guarantee the same support as it had done in previous years, the Italian began talks with other manufacturers present in the world championship. “Kawasaki showed considerable appreciation for the work done by my team and said they would be willing to start up a major collaboration with us in racing. The support would not be limited to the supply of bikes and technical material but the team could possibly become an official outfit”.

The project is still on the back burner for the moment but a ZX-6R Supersport machine is already in the team’s base at Pegognaga, ready for action. “We hope to go testing with Fabien Foret at Almeria on 16-18 December, we need to know which direction to take for the set-up of the cycle parts. In 2010 I’d also like to run Superstock 1000, maybe with Fabio Massei”.
